Introducing Wild Dogs to Nambiti Reserve

We are thrilled to announce a new and exciting development within the Nambiti Private Game Reserve!

In late September, we had the privilege of welcoming three incredible new residents: two male wild dogs from Mozambique and one female from Hluhluwe-Imfolozi. After months of careful preparation, these magnificent predators have now officially made Nambiti their new home.

Before their release into the wild, the trio spent two months in a specially designed boma (an enclosure) within the reserve. This crucial acclimatisation period allowed the dogs to adjust to their new environment, bond with one another, and form a cohesive and tightly-knit pack. This step is essential for ensuring they can thrive in the wild, and the results are already evident.

Since their release, the wild dogs have been spotted several times during our game drives, much to the delight of our guests. Observing these highly social and energetic predators roam freely across the reserve has been a truly unforgettable experience. The bond between the two males and the female is already strong, and they have adapted beautifully to their new life in the Nambiti wilderness.

But these sightings are about more than just wildlife photography opportunities—they represent something much bigger. Wild dogs, also known as African painted dogs, are among the most endangered predators on the continent, with fewer than 6,000 remaining in the wild. Their presence at Nambiti is not only a rare privilege but also a powerful symbol of the reserve’s ongoing commitment to conservation and biodiversity.

At Cheetah Ridge, we are passionate about ensuring that future generations can experience the beauty and diversity of African wildlife. The arrival of these wild dogs is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to restore balance to the ecosystem and protect species at risk.

As we look forward to watching this remarkable pack thrive and grow, we invite you to join us on this conservation journey. On your next visit to Cheetah Ridge, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for these stunning creatures as they navigate their new home. Witnessing wild dogs in their natural habitat is an experience like no other—one that highlights the intricate beauty of nature and the success of dedicated conservation work.

The story of Nambiti’s wild dog pack has only just begun, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
